Hi,
Thank you for your query.
If your 6-month-old Flowerhorn has not been eating for almost a month but is still active, it indicates that something is preventing it from swallowing or digesting food properly. Since it takes the pellets into its mouth and then spits them out, the most common causes are:
- Internal parasites (very common in Flowerhorns)
- Mouth or gill infection/injury
- Internal bacterial infection
- Poor-quality or expired food
- Stress due to unseen environmental factors
I recommend the following:
- Check the fish’s mouth for any sores, swelling, or fungal growth.
- Observe the feces. White, long, stringy feces usually indicate internal parasites.
- Stop feeding for 24–48 hours, then offer a small amount of high-quality food such as frozen bloodworms or premium cichlid pellets.
- Maintain excellent water quality and ensure strong filtration and aeration.
- If internal parasites are suspected, use a suitable anti-parasitic medication according to the manufacturer’s instructions.
- If there are signs of infection, a broad-spectrum antibacterial treatment may be required.
To help identify the exact problem, please share:
- A clear photo or short video of your Flowerhorn.
- Is the fish passing normal feces or white/stringy feces?
- Is the abdomen swollen or sunken?
- What is the tank size?
- Is the Flowerhorn kept alone or with other fish?
With these details, I can guide you toward the most appropriate treatment.
